Picking your office colour scheme

24th March 2017

The office is a place where most of us spend a lot of time, even if it’s not quite where we want to be. With us spending so much time there, the best thing to do therefore is to ensure that it is a positive place, and decorated to keep all employers’ spirits up. We here at GME have a vast experience of commercial decorating, and have a few top tips to spruce up your office environment whilst keeping it suitable for external visitors.

Countless studies have proven that the environment in which we work can have a significant effect on our energy, creativity, and our focus. This means, in order to get the best out of employees it’s vital to keep the morale high with any way you can. A clean, well decorated office space can certainly do that.

Blue is good for brainstorming spaces and detail orientated spaces. The colour blue generally is thought to calm, promote a sense of trust, communication, and efficiency. Whilst also helping to lower heart rate, blood pressure and respiration. It seems amazing that just being in a room painted that colour can have such a significant impact on an individual’s performance, which drives home the message that the right colour choice for your office can have a significant impact.

Yellow can accent other colours, but is also great for high-energy creative spaces. The colour yellow promotes a sense of optimism, whilst stimulating and energising. However, too much can actually have an adverse effect and lead to anxiety and increase tempers.

Much like yellow, orange accents other colours and is a go to for high-energy creative spaces. Orange symbolizes endurance, boosts creative performance, and generates enthusiasm.

Red is good for night workers, as it boosts heart rate, increases brain wave activity and stimulates appetite.

White is the go to for most offices, and is an excellent choice for creative spaces, as it promotes creativity in an individual, whilst creating a sense of spaciousness, especially when paired with natural light.
