The expertise and versatility of the GME team allows us to complete projects in a wide variety of sectors. This includes heritage buildings – older buildings like churches, museums and theatres which typically require great care and attention in order to preserve their traditional charm.
One such building is Harrogate’s Royal Hall, upon which GME recently had the opportunity to work. We have a great relationship with Harrogate Borough Council and work with them regularly, so it was testament to the faith they have in our quality and reliability that they trusted us with such a prestigious and famous building.
The Royal Hall is a Grade II* listed building and originally opened more than 100 years ago. Structural problems forced it to close in 2002, but it was reopened by Prince Charles in 2008 after a £10m restoration effort.
GME were tasked with painting and decorating the Hall to a high standard to keep it looking fresh while maintaining its old-fashioned appeal. Our repainting also covered the Hall’s toilets and office areas, as well as the viewing boxes back of house areas that often play host to high-profile and celebrity visitors. We left the Hall looking resplendent and are sure that future visitors will appreciate the hard work we put in!
We always enjoy working in Harrogate and will be returning soon to work on the Harrogate Convention Centre. This large site includes an impressive 2000-seat main auditorium, a number of exhibition halls and the Royal Hall itself, so this promises to be another challenging yet rewarding project for the GME team.
